Ezekiel 12:26-28 (KJV)
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off.
Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.

Did you notice? In this case the house of Israel did not deny the truth of the prophet’s message or dismiss it outright. They verbally acknowledged his message. But then they said, “…he prophesied of the times that are far off.” They had effectively dismissed the message and removed any personal application of the message by placing it into the distant future.
This is a problem every Christian can become party to. In Fundamental Baptist Churches our pews are packed with mostly professing believers. Few in those pews would make an outright denial of anything in the Word or those things our preachers proclaim. What we are prone to do, especially when it applies to future things, is to place them into the distant future. We know them to be true, but we have convinced ourselves they won’t happen any time soon. Thus, we remove from ourselves the obligation to act upon them:
- Laying up treasures in heaven
- Dedicating ourselves to His service
- Witnessing to some lost friend
- Repenting of that sin that easily besets us
Sure, we know we need to do these, but we reason we have time.
God’s message to us is this, “Therefore … there shall none of my words be prolonged any more …”
It’s time to make a reckoning with God.
