Jeremiah 52:2-3 (KJV)
And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
Zedekiah did evil, he did that which was displeasing to God, by rebelling against the king of Babylon.

I’m trying to put myself in Judah in those days.
On the one hand, you know that God has given you this land.
You belong to a peculiar people, chosen to make God known in the world.

On the other hand, you are threatened by a people noted for their ungodliness
And there are plenty of preachers, by far the majority and the most popular ones, who preach to hold fast and fight Babylon. Your sense of nationalism tells you they are right. But there is this one preacher, Jeremiah, preaching God’s will is surrender. It’s time for Judah to accept chastening for her sins.

Your flesh says to fight Babylon but you have to know Jeremiah is correct about the sins. Conviction fills your heart.
- But the majority
- But the pride
- But the wisdom of the flesh
Zedekiah chooses these above the conviction and that is evil.
How is one to know right from wrong, good from evil? When the majority of voices and your own good sense says one way is right, how is it your fault if you choose it over that still small voice?
The answer is God. Each of us is responsible to seek Him and to know Him. He is near[1]and easy to be found if we will but let go of pride and surrender to his voice.
- There is a wooing of the Holy Spirit and
- There is the wisdom of the world and the flesh
To choose the flesh over the Spirit is evil.
[1]Psalms 145:18 (KJV)
The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
