Luke 6:48 (KJV)
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Just here we discover why many Christians struggle in the storms of life.
The parable goes this:
There is one who builds his house upon the rock.
The storms come, the floods rise, the winds beat upon the house, but it stands because it’s built upon the rock.
The storms come, the floods rise, the winds beat upon the house, but it stands because it’s built upon the rock.
There is another who builds his house upon the sand.
The storms come just as they do for the other. In this case the house falls to a great ruin.
The storms come just as they do for the other. In this case the house falls to a great ruin.
But wait.
The first man “digged deep” to find that solid rock. I am afraid that many Christians have built on top of the rock, but they didn’t dig down to that rock. They became content building on
- the same doctrines,
- the same practices,
- the same songs,
- the same church,
- the same standards,
- the same friendships and fellowship
as those who have built upon the rock.
They assumed it was enough because they built their lives just like those thriving, growing, strong believers have. But they never dig down to the rock, Jesus Christ.
Stable Christianity begins in Christ. Sure, church, standards, doctrine, associations all play into a strong Christian walk, but those things alone can wash away. That which can never move is Jesus.
Dig down to Christ. Never content yourself in anything less than Jesus Christ. From Him all the rest makes sense and has meaning.
Upon Him, no storm can shake you.
