Ezekiel 36:22 (KJV)
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

Israel had a difficult time remembering this lesson. Time and time again God delivered them, blessed them, provided for them and miraculously avenged them of the enemies. But time and time again they somehow thought it was because they were inherently better than all the others.
- It was true they had the heritage of some great men
- It was true they had the heavenly pattern for worship
- It was true they could claim the great miracles for their people
- It was true they had the Word of God
What was not true is that they had these because they were any better than the others. They had these because God gave them to them. They were like Noah. Noah’s greatness did not result in God’s grace. God grace resulted in Noah’s greatness.
Next time God blesses us or uses us or delivers us from an enemy, we need to remember that we are no better than our enemy. It is God’s grace that made us the avenged rather than the “avengee”.
