John 5:39-40 (KJV)
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

The Scribes and Pharisees viewed the Scriptures as their salvation. They had read it and copied it and written about it until they had lost sight of the message of it.

The Bible tells us how to have eternal life. It is holy and precious and infallible and from above. But it is not the end in itself. Its value is in bringing us to Jesus Christ.

Any religion that uses the Word of God but draws people away from Jesus is a lie. There is no redeeming good in it. It is of Satan as surely as a religion that uses some other “holy” book.

Those who search the Scriptures but reject Jesus Christ will be judged out of the very book they claim to know so well.
