Malachi 1:14 (KJV) When Worship, Isn’t

Malachi 1:14 (KJV)
But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
The Jews of this time were very religious, but they weren’t at all dedicated to the Lord. There’s was a commitment to a religious culture. They were committed to preserving their heritage, but they had little to no real faith in God or His Word.
This revealed itself in a number of ways, one of them being their halfhearted performance in giving. They gave, but they did not give their best. They gave but they did not give obediently. They gave but they did not give sacrificially.[1]
Their trouble, God tells them, is that they had lost hold of the truth that God is “a great King.”
I wonder how many professing Christians are in this same trouble? When we got saved, we expected God to do great things in our lives. The truth has been that mostly we have lived normal lives but with the instructions of His Word instead of the reasoning of this world. At some point, many Christians begin to think of faith as a point of view, one of many in this world. We may not abandon that point of view, but we loosen our dedication to it. We forget the greatness of the God who gave it to us. And when we do that, we cease to worship Him even as we worship Him.

[1]Is this an oxymoron? Their sacrifices were not – sacrifices. They did not sacrifice sacrifices but only animals.
