Joshua 19:1 (KJV)
And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.
And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah.
The tribes descending from the sons of Israel didn’t always get along. Just like any family, feuds, jealousies, and rivalries developed from time to time. Here is an instance of the opposite effect. Judah received its lot and discovered it to be too large. God gave Simeon its lot within Judah. I see a recipe for disaster brewing here. But it was of the Lord.
Why was Judah ever given a lot bigger than its need?
I can hear any one of the other tribes claiming unfairness. Dan’s lot was too little. It seems like they might have thought they had a legitimate complaint.

Why was Simeon’s lot within the inheritance of Judah?
Couldn’t their lot have been shaved off one of the borders of Judah? Must they have their lot “swallowed up” with Judah?

Why should Judah share what they inherited?
So what if it seemed too much for them? It was their inheritance. Why should they share?

But we see no such bickering-at least not at this time.
There are always reasons for people to bicker, complain, be jealous, envious or selfish. We can always complain that things were not fair or that God did not do it because it doesn’t look fair.
Mature people will resist the bickering and find ways to help one another for the benefit of all.
