Luke 8:18 (KJV)
Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
This verse is a part of a larger context labeled by Scofield, “Lamp Under A Jar.”
Luke 18:16-18 (KJV)
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

The context is about hiding the gospel. Here is one who has such a valuable treasure, but he attempts to hide it and keep it secret. Jesus warns His audience to be careful right here. The one who does this only seems to have that gospel. It isn’t a reality in them or else they would let it shine and make it manifest.
The one who has this gospel will grow more and more in the things of God. The one who seems to have it but does not share it will grow less and less attracted by the things of God until, at the time of his death, what little he seems to have left is taken and he finds himself eternally in hell.
The same can happen in a church. Once busily about the business of reaching out to others, as a church withdraws into itself, its concerns and its own troubles, it gradually loses that which it once seemed to have. The word “seemeth” may be significant. Maybe they never really had it. Maybe it was a show all along.
Those who have true treasure could not possibly hide it.
