2 Chronicles 34:27 (KJV)
Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.

What a powerful thought, “Because thine heart was tender…”
This tenderness translates twice in the verse as humility. Josiah humbled himself. Mind you, he was already a good king, godly even. He had begun to seek the Lord at age sixteen and had not relented. He had led others to do the same. He was all in for God. Because of it, God has blessed him. (Interesting enough, one of God’s blessings on Josiah would be to gather him to his fathers before God’s judgment. God did that through his death in combat.)
But he never came to the place where he thought he had attained. He continued to seek the Lord. When the Word of God was found and read to him, he humbled himself the more.
May God help us to be constantly ready to humble ourselves at the Word of God.
