Psalms 127:2 (KJV) The Vanity of Worry

Psalms 127:2 (KJV)
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

This is called, “A psalm of degrees for Solomon”. Interesting, since Ecclesiastes, written by Solomon, is all about vanity.

I know this verse is not intended to excuse laziness. We are to redeem the time. On the other hand, this verse does teach the absurdity, the vanity, of worry. God’s got this. Just be faithful and trust Him. It also teaches the fallacy of “10% inspiration and 90% perspiration”. While I have no doubt many a ministry has been built on that model, I am convinced what stands is but wood, hay, and stubble. It will, in the end, all be for naught.

  • Be faithful.
  • Be on time.
  • Be in place all the time.

Then leave the concern to the Lord.

He gives His beloved sleep.
