Matthew 26:2 (KJV) Ye Know That

Matthew 26:2 (KJV)

Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

Writers like to say that the betrayal and Crucifixion were not equally known to the disciples as was the passover. Indeed, the feast of the passover was such an integral part of Jewish life that they would have known the day and the time in about the same way a little child today knows when Christmas is almost here. By the time they were two days away, the anticipation would have been thick. The passover would have been forefront in their minds.

In contrast, was the betrayal and Crucifixion. This event had never happened yet. It was clouded in the minds of the disciples first by their reticence to consider it and secondly by the approaching of such an event as the passover.

What we find here is the connection between the two events. The Lord’s Supper in some ways pictures in the passover. More so is the betrayal and Crucifixion. The passover is a foreshadowing of the Crucifixion. The disciples should have known that.
