Luke 15:20 (KJV) No Words Needed

Luke 15:20 (KJV)

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

The prodigal returned home broken, repentant and humbled. He resolved and in fact did apologize profusely to his father, Luke 15:21 (KJV)
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

I am interested in the father’s reaction.

  • He ran, fell on his neck, and kissed him
  • He said to his servants, bring forth the best robe….
  • He told the oldest son, “It was meet that we should make merry”

But there is no record of the father saying anything to the prodigal. The fact is, the best demonstration of his forgiveness was in the actions and not words.

When we are down on ourselves, we often think we need to hear words of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Far better are those actions that prove we are “home again.”
