Judges 5:31 (KJV) Our Choice

Judges 5:31 (KJV)

So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

The bulk of this chapter is the song of Deborah. I think the final verse is a comment of the writer of Judges. Gill agrees that at the least, the final phrase is the penman’s work.

I see it as an application, a declaration, and a concluding truth. It’s not a wish or a prayer but a statement of fact.

The enemies of God perish

Sisera was slain in a rather ignominious fashion but because of his aggression against the people of God. The mention of his mother relates to us that, though the enemy of God, these people have feelings. They suffer at their losses. The enemies of God are not cold hearted. That makes their judgment worse. They do not go down to the grave as animals but as souls lost and without hope.

Those that love the Lord shall arise as the sun
It’s not a hope, a wish, or even a prayer. It is a truth. The end of all who love God is resurrection and eternal life in the glorious presence of the Lord.

Our choice.
