And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
Don’t blame God
That there were enemies in the Promised Land, that they had to learn to fight, that there were tests for their faith – these are not reasons to be angry with God.
First, there was an enemy in the land because the generation before them did not completely obey the Lord
We create so many problems, spiritual and otherwise, because we follow the Lord half-heartedly.
Consequently, future generations would need to know how to fight
The ability to stand on one’s own two feet, to defend oneself, especially regarding our faith, is an imperative. Like it or not, this world is not our friend. To be left defenseless is criminal. A parent who refuses to equip children for this reality is genuinely cruel.
Faith must be proven in order that it may grow
Faith that is seen, answered, and untested can never be true. Only faith that is exercised can be trusted to be genuine. And only exercised faith even when genuine, can grow into greater faith.
Don’t blame God for your troubles. Don’t get angry at Him for trials. It is this that will build in us patience and perfect our faith.
