For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
It can sometimes be a delicate matter to speak of the sins of our parents. We love them dearly and, even if the Holy Spirit has convicted us to live differently, we can still be very sensitive about our parents’ and our siblings’ sins. Hezekiah teaches us that honesty about their sins and obeying God despite them is a way to give our parents the highest form of honor.
Hezekiah immediately opened the doors his father had shut
Upon his ascendance to the throne, he reversed his father’s forbiddance of Temple worship.
Hezekiah then confronted the sins of the fathers of the priests and Levites
He minced no words concerning their sins and the terrible consequences of them.
Finally, Hezekiah humbly accepted the priests’ mention of Ahaz’s sins[1]
He took it in stride and for the truth that it was.
We are commanded to honor our father and our mother.
Such honor does not require that we remain blind to their sins or that we do as they did.

Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his transgression, have we prepared and sanctified, and, behold, they arebefore the altar of the LORD.
