Esther 3:1 (KJV) Until He Was Promoted

Esther 3:1 (KJV)

After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

We do not hear of Haman until the king chooses to promote him.

Isn’t it interesting that, in chapters one and two, we have the names of

the princes and leaders under Ahasuerus and Haman is not mentioned? How he rose to such heights in such a short time is a mystery. One wonders, given the revealed nature of Haman, if it wasn’t through some sort of evil.

Here’s my thought; Haman didn’t get into trouble until he was promoted. I am reminded that one must be careful whenever one is advanced.

Pride can set in
Isn’t that what happened to Haman? He may have been a proud man previously, but this promotion certainly amplified and exposed it.

Testing may come
God chooses to test us and see what our mettle is. For Haman, that test was in the form of Mordecai.

Haman did not pass the test
It’s not evil to be promoted. But those who advance must be aware of the dangers of such promotions. It would be better to remain unknown and unnoticed than to be promoted and destroyed through it.
