Psalms 38:9 (KJV) Prayer Life

Psalms 38:9 (KJV)

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

It can be a matter of great comfort to know that God knows the things we desire so greatly we groan over them.

David, the Psalmist, was in a difficult place. We know that, though he was much used of the Lord, he was also greatly tried in this world. Yet, when matters overwhelmed him, he came to God with this assurance – God knew.

His desire was before the Lord
Not just one or two of them but all his desire.

  • His desire for blessing
  • His desire for peace
  • His desire for his family
  • His desire for his kingdom
  • His desire for righteousness

There was nothing David desired that wasn’t before the Lord before David could present it to the Lord.

His groaning was not hidden from the Lord

Those things David groaned over would have been desires as well. These were those painful things he experienced. These were those things he not only desired, but he maybe felt he could not do without. They were not hidden from God.

A prayer life built upon such an assurance is a sweet and special one. We cry out to God, expressing our desires and the groanings of our soul, and all the while we do it, we are aware that God is already aware.
