As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
While the question of the Psalm is, “Why art thou cast down, Oh my soul?”[1] The focus of the Psalm is his longing for the Lord.
There are oppressors calling out, “Where is thy God?” And it was making the Psalmist to cry, “When shall I come and appear before God?”
Whatever creates in us a thirst for the living God is no bad thing. No matter how painful it may appear, our soul need never be cast down about those things that leave us longing for the presence of the Lord.
[1] Psalms 42:5 (KJV)
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Psalms 42:11 (KJV)
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
