And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
The passage is Millennial in context. It speaks of the reign of Christ in the One Thousand Year Reign of Christ.
- The girdle is a belt. It’s meant to bind the clothing close to the body.
- The loins are a symbol of strength
- The reins, also thought to be the kidneys, a symbol of emotions
- The righteousness of Christ will be that which dresses and reveals His strength
- The faithfulness of Christ will be that which identifies His character and motivation
It will be true of Jesus in the Kingdom. It is true of Him today.
Christians will rule with Him in the Millennial Kingdom. We ought therefore to be seeking to be girded or clothed with the righteousness of Christ. It will prepare us for our place with Him in the Kingdom. It will give us strength as we serve the Lord today. We ought also to seek to be clothed with faithfulness to the Lord. It will prevent our emotions from being the thing that leads us through the temptations and choices of life.
