Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Proverbs 2:5 (KJV)
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
I am reminded once again of John R Rice’s explanation of this text that the verb tense suggests ask seek and knock should be understood to mean:
- Ask and keep on asking
- Seek and keep on seeking
- Knock and keep on knocking

"Then shalt thou… find the knowledge of God."
There is nothing more deadly to the Christian profession than to stop seeking the knowledge of God and His wisdom. It’s not that a Christian would lose his or her salvation if they stop seeking. But I’ve known many a Christian to lose their testimony. A walk with God implies constant movement and forward progress. Whenever a believer chooses to sit down along the path they do lose that close connection with the Lord.
Unfortunately, in our American type of Christianity I am afraid most professing Christians never even got off the park bench of professing faith.
- They’ve never found wisdom
- They’ve never really found the knowledge of God
- They’ve only been content to believe that, no matter what a mess they make of life, it’ll be fine in heaven
God’s challenge for every believer is to seek Him, His knowledge, and His wisdom. And in the continued seeking, we find.
