Ezekiel 5:7 (KJV) Once Saved, Always Saved

Ezekiel 5:7 (KJV)

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;

My understanding of Scripture is that once a soul in genuinely saved, they can never be anything but saved. Since salvation is a work of God to justify, redeem, and give new birth, it is impossible for any work of man to reverse it.

My understanding of Scripture also teaches me those who once professed faith and have abused or left the profession were never saved at all. Peter said they are like the dog returning to the vomit and the sow returning to the wallow.[1]

But what about those who have made this profession and have abused it? What about those who profess to be saved and then prey on the young, or use the faith for personal gain, or go off into unorthodox doctrinal errors? (Giving allowance for the fact that we see through a glass darkly and all of us have the Biblical right to worship God according to the dictates of our conscience. I am referring to those who willfully abuse the faith.) I believe the Bible teaches they are lost. But more. They may be the worst of the lost. It may be that, if hell has places of worse torture, those places won’t belong to the pagan, or even to the atrociously evil, but to those who stay amid the things of God and still “multiplied more than the nations that are round about them.”

It may be more consequential than most suspect to have seen the light God, tasted the good things of God and yet turned away from God.[2]

Ezekiel 5:7 (KJV) Once Saved, Always Saved

[1] 2 Peter 2:22 (KJV)

But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

[2] Hebrews 6:4-6 (KJV)

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
