There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
Verse 8 says "...certain Chaldeans accused the Jews."
Their accusations were threefold:
· These men...have not regarded thee.
· They serve not thy gods.
· They did not worship the golden image.
Two of the accusations were correct. But the accusation of not regarding the king was presumptuous and false. Their earlier testimony, and later verses, demonstrate a respectful attitude toward the king.
The real problem men of the world have with true Christianity is that they perceive, falsely, those who possess a genuine faith in Christ are disloyal to the "powers that be." Nothing is farther from the truth. The faith of the Christian teaches him to be respectful of, and obedient to the laws of the land.[1] The man or woman who knows Jesus Christ is the most patriotic of all citizens. It's inbred in their spiritual DNA. It's more than a command, it's their nature.
Except in one point, he or she will not put government above God. This trait is misunderstood and attacked because, for the unsaved, government - the rule of man - is their god.
I can't promise that God will protect the child of God in the same fashion He protected the three Hebrews in this chapter. But I can guarantee that those believers, who have no other gods before God, will be blessed forever for their faith.
