There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;
Culture, being as it was in the Babylonian Middle Eastern world, it might not be surprising that Belshazzar was not aware of the earlier exploits of Daniel in regard to his father.[1] But the context seems to me to clearly point out he should have known.
· He knew how Nebuchadnezzar had been humbled.
· His judgment was primarily for not having humbled himself.
· He readily accepted Daniel's reputation once he was reminded of him.
Still, Belshazzar called on all the "magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers" before he called on the one who had been made their master.
This world is on a course leading to terrible judgment. And it's not that the world will be caught unaware. There is practically speaking no place on this earth that has not been warned. They've been given witness after witness, prophet after prophet, preacher after preacher. The judgment of the world is a righteous judgment because they have heard the Word of the Lord and have chosen, instead of repenting, to "hold the truth in unrighteousness."[2]
