Ephesians 5:7 (KJV)

Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

 

Another exhortation to separation.  

 

Separation from worldliness is one of the most vital Christian disciplines—and yet, it is also one of the most neglected and disobeyed.  

·       We don’t like to be alone.  

·       We don’t like to be different.  

·       We don’t like the consequences of standing apart.  

But you’ll be hard-pressed to find a book of the Bible that doesn’t command, teach, or illustrate this principle.

 

It’s worth noting that Ephesians begins by teaching us about a new kind of unity: one new man made up of Jews and Gentiles. Paul said it was for the sake of this unity that he had been imprisoned, and it is this unity that we must endeavor to keep.  

 

We are called to forsake participation in the old ways of worldliness and to actively engage in the new body of Christ, His local church.

 

Today, everyone recognizes that Christianity is waning in influence:  

·       Some celebrate it.  

·       Some mock it.  

·       Some analyze it.  

·       Some mourn it.  

Jesus prophesied this decline.  

 

Not many are willing to do anything about it. But we can stem the tide and once again be salt and light in our time.

 

All it requires is that we “be not partakers with them” of the world.
