And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
The Bible says that when Jesus healed the man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, he could hear and speak plainly.
I’ve known some wonderful people who cannot hear. Some of them cannot speak at all. A few can sometimes say a few words. But on rare occasions, some can speak—and even speak plainly.
One of our dear friends was born with hearing problems. Her parents, determined to give her every advantage possible, sent her to speech and vocalization classes. She could read lips so well and speak so plainly that many people never realized she was deaf.
Until she got tired.
My wife used to say she could always tell when our friend was either tired or not feeling well because she could no longer concentrate on speaking plainly.
I take it that those who knew the man could tell that Jesus had done more than teach him how to speak as if he could hear.
He hath done all things well.
The man could hear, which meant the man could speak plainly.
Our great need today is to be so touched by the hand of the Lord that our faith is more than mere training and determination—something that doesn't fade when we’re tired or not feeling well.
Lord, make our faith such that those who know us best can testify that all You have done in our lives, You have done all things well.
