Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
The name of God, “The Lord of Sabaoth,” is striking. It harkens back to creation, traces through nearly every era of Jewish history, defines Jesus Christ, confronts the errors of religion, and—in this passage—recalls the promise of His coming judgment.
Whether the “rich men” addressed here are literal (believers who have abused their laborers) or rhetorical (a message really aimed at an audience of laborers who have been abused) is, in some ways, beside the point. The lesson is clear: we must not hold a grudge, even against the most abusive treatment.
By faith, we trust the Word of God that the cries and prayers of those who have been mistreated have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth—and we can trust Him to make things right.
The fruit of the earth we patiently await is that final accounting. I can’t say I know exactly how all of that will be resolved. Those rich men who are truly saved are forgiven their sins—and those sins are forgotten. For the lost, there is a terrible wrath awaiting them, but I could never wish that wrath upon anyone. Instead, I pray for their salvation.
What I do know is this: the coming of the Lord draweth nigh, the Judge standeth at the door, and we will be quite satisfied with the settlement.
Sabaoth is a symbol of rest. Faith rests in this promise.

The Lord of Sabaoth: God Will Make It Right
🌾 Are you trusting the Lord of Sabaoth to make things right? 🌾
James 5:4 reminds us that the cries of the mistreated have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. God hears every prayer, sees every injustice, and promises to set it all right in His perfect time.
