But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
My thought is this: privilege does not equal promise.
The children of Israel are a privileged people so far as: their history, their relationship to God, the delivery of the Bible, and their role in our Saviour is concerned. No other nation has experienced the moving of the hand of God in such a way.
Yet, my understanding is that today Israel as a nation is almost atheist, certainly agnostic. Still, there have been times when they were so nationally aware of their privilege that they despised people of other nations. Jesus confronted this error directly. He said that people from around the world would sit with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the children of Israel (as a nation, not individuals if they trust Christ) would be cast into outer darkness. The privileges they possessed were not a promise of heaven.
I want to make this application to our time. The privileges of living in a free country, having the right to attend church, read the Bible, and worship God according to our conscience (or not), are no promise of eternal safety.
The casual Christian might believe they are safely settled in heaven because God allows them the privilege of such a casual relationship. My warning is this—be careful. Your privilege is no promise that your relationship with the Lord is of the saving kind. I wonder: how could one whose sins have been forgiven at such a great price be so casual about being forgiven?
The atheist and agnostic might believe they are safely set in “nothingness” after death. While I doubt anyone truly believes we are soulless animals that simply stop existing once the body wears out, the atheist insists that’s their position—and they are perfectly free to hold it. Nevertheless, I offer this caution: your privilege of belief is no promise that you are correct. Too many souls, from too many backgrounds, many of them highly intelligent, have believed in life after death. Too much evidence exists—whether you accept it or not—of the resurrection of Christ.
While you have the privilege of rejection, your privilege is not a promise. Jesus said many will sit with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, but others will be cast into outer darkness. Not where they cease to exist, but where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I have no desire to frighten anyone into a profession of faith. But I long to warn you: give Christ an honest hearing. Don’t allow your privilege to prevent you from receiving the promise of eternal life.

From Privilege to Promise: Only in Christ
Privilege is not the same as promise.
Living in a free country, attending church, or even owning a Bible are wonderful blessings—but they do not guarantee salvation. Jesus warned that many will sit with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while others, though privileged, will be cast into outer darkness (Matthew 8:12).
👉 Here’s the question for you: Are you trusting in privilege, or in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ?
