2 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV) The Glory You Don’t Have to Hide

2 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV)

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

At no point in Paul’s life does Scripture say that his face shone as Moses’ did. Paul explains why.

The glory that shone upon Moses’ face was “the ministration of condemnation.” Israel recognized it as such. They hid their faces from Moses, so much so that Moses was constrained to cover his face with a veil in order to continue his ministry. Paul says that the Jews still see that veil, incapable of witnessing the fullness of God in their law.

On the other hand, the ministry of Paul—and of every New Testament Bible preacher—is “the ministration of righteousness.” It exceeds so greatly in glory over the law of the Old Testament that the law appears to have no glory at all. (Not that it isn’t glorious. Its glory is simply overshadowed by the gospel.)

Paul goes on to say in 2 Corinthians 3:12 (KJV):
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech.

The hope of which he speaks is the exceeding glory of the gospel. It is not a glory one must hide from. Therefore, rather than covering his face—rather than ministering through a veil, as it were—Paul says, “we use great plainness of speech.”

  • We tell it like it is.
  • We bring it out into the open.
  • We make it available to the common man—to every man.

The glory of the gospel is not an outward symbol such as Moses’ shining face. It is not sign gifts. It is not something that makes one person appear more advanced or more glorious than another.

The glory of the gospel is a simple, plain, everyday ministry.

And it is through this ministry that men, women, and children are set free by faith in Christ.
