And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Go Your Ways
Each of the seven angels having the seven vials filled with the wrath of God had a different way to go.
- The first, to those who had the mark of the Beast.
- The second, upon the sea.
- The third, upon the rivers and waters.
- The fourth, upon the sun.
- The fifth, upon the seat of the beast.
- The sixth, upon the river Euphrates.
- The seventh, into the air.
While many of these judgments appear to be directed toward things in nature—the sea, waters, and air—those that have a more specific target are all directed toward those involved with the Beast (Antichrist).
We also note that the responses to these vials are twofold:
From the angels: "Thou art righteous..."
From the earth: "And men... blasphemed the name of God..."
I take it, then, that these vials of wrath are all directed toward Antichrist's followers and the rejecters of God.
I am reminded of the plagues of Egypt. God had a remarkable way of pouring judgment upon the Egyptians while at the same time protecting the Jews from those same plagues. Some of those plagues were of such a nature that only a miraculous hand could have prevented them from affecting the Jews—flies, frogs, and the like.
The same, I believe, is true of the vial judgments.
While all believers of this age will be raptured and removed before the Tribulation period on earth, the Bible says that multitudes from every nation, kindred, tongue, and people will be saved during the Tribulation. They will experience persecution, some even unto death, from Antichrist and his followers.
But they will be spared something far worse: the wrath of God poured out in judgment.
The seven angels having the seven vials of the wrath of God have a specific way to go.That way is not toward the people of God.
