Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
Christians are asking this question a lot these days!
I am writing this September 12, 2026. Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York City. So much has transpired since then.
One of the most unsettling and confusing things is that just 25 years after the attacks, New York City has a Muslim mayor. Whole states right now are dominated by Islam. It is as if the United States of America silently surrendered to Islam after that attack. It is as if large numbers of Americans, including many in leadership and many of them conservatives, determined under their breath that Islam is so violent the only way to make peace with them is to bow to them.
And those of us who don’t get that ask,
“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”
And then there is the woke agenda, the LGBTQ agenda, and the promiscuous lifestyle agenda—that is so common even professing Christians have no problem with it.

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”
Here is what David did. The New Testament ascribes this Psalm to David. He set the King, Jesus, on the holy hill Zion. Gill calls that hill the church of Jesus Christ. I am not willing to go there.
I’ll call it faith.
Faith, trusting what God has said in His Word, tells us that in the end of all things God will have them in derision.
The response of the believer is not to mock and scorn the heathen that rage, but to urge them to meet Christ and, as we read in verse 12,
“Kiss the Son…” — Psalms 2:12 (KJV)
Make peace with God through a loving relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.
Our job is not to hate the heathen, and neither is it to bow before them and surrender to their ideologies. It is to set Christ high in our hearts, stand firmly for Him, and call out to others to be reconciled by faith in Him.
