Genesis 36:31 (KJV) Hardship Led To Heroism

Genesis 36:31 (KJV)
And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.
Genesis chapters 36 and 37 describe the growth of the families of Esau and Jacob. This poignant verse tells us that, despite the fact that Jacob was the one chosen by God to carry the spiritual heritage of their father, Esau’s family grew into a nation long before Israel’s.
We look into the genealogy of Esau and, with the benefit of hindsight, see evil ahead.
And yet they are the first to have leaders: dukes and even kings.
Jacob’s family has early sibling rivalry, heartbreak and even enslavement. They by no means appear to be the blessed between the two brothers.
But God wasn’t finished. Hardship led to heroism. Many of Jacob’ descendants become household names:
  • Joseph
  • Moses
  • David
  • Jesus
One has to search to find the names of any of Esau’s family.
Stay faithful despite hardship.
God will bless that in the end.
