Deuteronomy 8:18 KJV
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
The passage's thought begins in verse eleven (though I found that most of chapters seven and eight could apply to this same thought). That of remembering that the Lord is the one who had blessed them in the good land. We are warned of our tendency, once having prospered, to forget that the prosperity comes from the Lord and not of our own doing.
Our cupboards are stocked
Our houses are nice
Our accounts are full
And we forget that it is all because of the Lord.
So the Bible's remedy is that we remember that it is the LORD that gives us the power to get wealth.
The word here is one that means force. Strong's concordance says it also means virtue, valor, strength, ability or other types of resources. In other words, this does not necessarily mean money and it does not necessarily mean huge amounts of riches. It means that God gives us the power or means to get everything we have.
That is humbling.
We cannot claim the blessing on our own
That is also something to be thankful for.
He does not have to give us this power.
