Deuteronomy 5:29 KJV
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
John Gill reminds us that properly speaking there are no such "volitions and wishes in God." This passage should not be taken to mean that God is any less sovereign. It is written "after the language of the children of men" and thus conveys to us the great heart of God that man, though a free will, would exercise that heart to fear God and keep His commandments.
What greater cause may a man give his life to than this?
What greater endeavor can a man be devoted to than the one Almighty God claims He desires us to?
