Proverbs 3:7 KJV
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
The deception of the flesh is such that we can easily become wise in our own eyes. We might begin trusting the Lord and not leaning on our own understanding. But time and success too often takes over and we begin to feel like
Because of our experience
Because of our past successes and maybe
Because of our further training
We have gained some of our own wisdom. Only evil can come from our own wisdom.
The wisest man always seeks wisdom but never acknowledges he has obtained it. His lifelong quest is for the wisdom of God and the understanding of the fear of the Lord.
