2 Chronicles 16:12 KJV
And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
The lesson here is not so much that Asa went to the physicians instead of the Lord; others had done that. The thing is that Asa knew what God was capable of and yet in the later years of his life, not only in this case but
In the case of employing the Syrians against Israel and
In the case of getting angry at the preacher for rebuking himAsa turned from seeking the Lord.
2 Chronicles 14:7 KJV
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
It was the same man who said, "...because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest..." Now refuses to seek the Lord. It is not, it seems to me, that he went to the physicians, but that his attitude in previous verses indicates he went to them instead of the Lord.
This is a terrifying thought and a practical warning for any Christian.
Asa did wrong
Asa grew angry at the preacher for telling him his wrong and
Asa then turned from seeking the Lord because of his anger.
If Asa could do that any of us could.
