2 Corinthians 5:1-4 KJV
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
I was struck this morning by the phrase, "that mortality might be swallowed up of life."
I believe the Apostle was speaking of the rapture. He was confident that if he died, he would go to heaven. And he said he groaned for that to happen. But then he said he did not groan so much to die and be with Christ, but that the mortality of his body would be "swallowed up" in eternal life in the heavens.
I got to thinking about that this morning and I have been asking the Lord to "swallow up" my life in the life of Jesus Christ, not only in the day when I go to heaven but today and each and every day. What a blessing it would be to be so overwhelmed in the life of Jesus Christ that we could almost not recognize the mortal life of the one who was so swallowed up!
