Joshua 13:7 KJV
Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh,
Though God had given them some supernatural victories and they had taken many of the cities of the Promised Land there was still "very much land to be possessed." Israel would, in fact, never fully conquer the Canaanites.
Still, God told Joshua to divide the land. These were "by faith" operations. It is as if God had led them super supernaturally to gain their foothold in the Promised Land, but from here on out the battles would be
Slower to win
More individually won and
With less of that obvious supernatural power
It was not that God quit leading them or helping them. But He did place much more responsibility upon the shoulders of the children of Israel themselves.
Battles won without struggle are won battles we will not celebrate long. In order to appreciate and grow from struggle, we must struggle personally and we must struggle painfully. Then the victory is sweet and the fruits of it long lasting.
When I first got saved it seemed like God did so many miraculous things for me. Each day was a wonder. Since then God has set me on a course that has involved much pain and sometimes very intense suffering. But God is still there and God is still leading and helping. He is now in the slow process of molding me into the image of my blessed Saviour. May I truly submit to that molding process.
