1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 KJV
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
I am reminded that the Bible says
1 Timothy 1:4 KJV
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
2 Timothy 2:23 KJV
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
Titus 3:9 KJV
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
The Apostle Paul says that he has no need to write to the believers in Thessalonica concerning the times and seasons of the Lord's return because they knew perfectly that the coming of the Lord would be "as a thief in the night." No man can no the day or the hour. We can't know if Jesus will come in the spring or the fall.
Mark 13:35 KJV
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
The Christians at Thessalonica did not have time to learn a great deal of the Word of God before the Apostle was forced to leave their town, but they had learned this one truth perfectly, when Jesus comes, it will be "as a thief in the night" and we therefore ought to be on watch always.
Why, if they could learn that in such a short time, do so many Christians have trouble with it after so long a time?
