Ezekiel 18:32 KJV
For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
Gill says of this passage,
"Which is not to be interpreted simply and absolutely, and with respect to all persons afflicted and punished by him; for he does take delight in the exercise of "judgment" and "righteousness", and "laughs" at the "calamity" of wicked men..."
It is important for us I think to see that God has no desire for any soul to die and enter into eternal hell. God does delight in justice. It is right and holy. It glorifies Him. This is not to be understood to mean that God hesitates in exercising His wrath. Not in the least.
But God's burning passion, His desire is that each soul, regardless of their current condition, would come to embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved from that wrath.
How gracious is our God, whose wrath is holy and just and will without a moment's hesitation be poured out upon ungodliness, yet pleads for that same sinner to turn and rather live than die.
