Judges 20:23 KJV
(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
The Lord said, Go. But they still saw 18,000 men slain and defeat that day.
Wars are not won in one or two battles.
• Sometimes whole campaigns won't the war win.
• Sometimes a loss, even several losses do not predict the eventual outcome in the war.
So even though God instructed them to go into battle, this battle was lost.
Here is the striking thing; even though this battle was lost, the people still enquired of the Lord and they still followed the Lord into the next battle.
• Seeming losses will come.
• Certain followers will die.
That does not mean God is powerless nor does it mean His people have been wrong to follow Him. It means we must trust Him in this wicked world, to navigate us to one that is far better.
