John 9:5 KJV
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
This chapter is entirely taken up with the man born blind and Christ's giving him sight.
The healing of the man is merely an illustration and a springboard for the true message of the chapter. The man who was healed then met Christ as Saviour. The point of the chapter is has very little to do with the healing of the blind and much to do with believing on and then worshipping the Son of God. Those who could not see that were indeed blind.
And Jesus said "as long as I am in the world" so one could question is He our light today. Just as the sun is still the light of the world even when it has set over the horizon, even so Christ is always the light of the world, but is more so in that place where His presence is known.
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
- Jesus connects sight with His being the light of the world.
- He connects blindness with not seeing Him as Christ; not knowing whence He came.
