2 Chronicles 13:9 KJV
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
God had given very specific instructions concerning the priesthood. Aaron and his children fulfilled that role while the rest of the tribe of Levi ministered in support roles to them. The pagans were the ones who allowed whosoever would to be a priest.
Times and direction from the Lord have changed. Now whosoever will may come and be saved and all the saved are made to be priests. Still there is a principle here that is very much worth holding. Those serving in the ministry must be both called and qualified.
Paul spoke much of his calling. His was not merely a job; it was a call of God upon his life.
More and more today we have men who enter the ministry who are neither qualified nor do they want to view their office as separated and marvelous. They look like dress like, wear their hair like the rankest of this world.
Abijah was not able to bring Israel back under the Davidic kingdom, but he was not wrong in his assessment of Jeroboam. God give us preachers who will proclaim what is true even if those who hear him will not follow.
