2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
What happened to Asa? In the beginning Asa's walk with the Lord seemed so strong. His trust in the Lord in early battle was right on. He even went so far as to make a covenant that went too far; that anyone who did not seek the Lord should be put to death.
God said his heart was perfect all his days.
But then he does foolishly,
• Calling on Syria to aide him against Israel
• Trusting the doctors instead of the Lord for the disease in his feet and
• Imprisoning Hanani for rebuking him for them
What happened? The Bible does not say. But the Bible does say it happened. And that is where I find the warning for today. None of us is so spiritually strong that we can afford to believe we could not slip from our walk with the Lord. God help us keep our eyes on the Lord and look straight on trusting only in Him.
