A Distant Second

Job 1:12 KJV
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

It has always been intriguing to me that God was as free with Job's possessions and even his children as He was.

God obviously loves His people. I don't mean to imply otherwise.

But, while He did not allow Satan to touch Job's life, many others including Job's own children died in this test and demonstration of faith. Not only was Job's wealth taken but multitudes of servants died. Families were hurt and it is as if that is of no consequence. No mention is made of the suffering and loss of all these who died.

I wonder if we don't place too much value on such things.

The lesson is obvious to me, seek first the kingdom of God and let Him care for the daily needs. Biblically things like
• Wealth
• Position
• Friends and even
• Family
come a distant second to things of the Spirit. We tend to think the reverse. We do spiritual things to improve our standing in those things that really matter to us.

God help us see life His way.
