Jeremiah 13:23 KJV
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Here is a very strong passage on the helplessness of man to fix the separation between him and God. No, the Ethiopian can't change his skin. But Acts chapter eight assures me that the Ethiopian can be born again.
The hope of any man is not in changing his ways. Even if he is successful in overcoming a bad habit, another and perhaps many other more evil habits will follow.
• The answer is not in reformation of the old man. The answer is in the birth of a new man.
• The answer is not in the strength of the flesh to change our ways; the best we will ever do is cover up the sinful nature (and that has merit in society, but not before God). The answer is to find peace with God despite our ways.
• The answer is not in a new way of life. The answer is in faith and hope in Jesus Christ.
It is to Christ I then appeal.
