We Are the Lord's

Rom 14:8 KJV
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Christians today place too much value on the few years they have on the earth.

  • We have lived so well for so long that we have begun to treasure the temporal life of earth.
  • We have lost the longing for another city no made of hands whose builder is the Lord.
  • We have lived with such comfort in this life that we fail to see the treasures of the next.

It is as if our view is that life here is heaven and then, eternal heaven- well, since we can't stay here forever, will be a grand second best.

I know that Christians in past centuries struggled with the flesh too. No one likes the process of death and I suppose that every man has wished he could die the most peaceful of deaths. But earthly life has been enough of a struggle in years gone by that many a man as willingly and even happily traded this one for that one to come.

Paul expresses a sentiment here that puts life and death in perspective; whichever one, we are the Lord's.

  • If it is His will we remain to serve here we are the Lord's.
  • If He is pleased to remove us to our heavenly home, we are the Lord's.

The focus, the priority, the value is not placed on either life or death but upon the Lord.
