Ephesians
6:3 KJV
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the
earth.
Gill writes that the Jews claimed
there were four things that, if a man observed in this life he would enjoy its fruit
today and its capital in the world to come:
- Honoring parents
- Giving to those in need
- Making peace with a neighbor and
- Learning the Law
The Jews, of course, we're far
from perfect and their applications of Scripture and philosophy is very often
skewed. However the biblical principle is in favor of these four providing
exactly what the Jews claimed; fruit today and capital in the world to come.
