Psalms
149:6 KJV
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged
sword in their hand;
There is a not so subtle change
that takes place in this Psalm. The subject transfers in verses four and five
from Israel
to the saints, the saved. And with this change also one from the physical
sphere to the spiritual. The saints of the New Testament are never to take up
carnal arms against another man for "the weapons
of our warfare are not carnal". We are, however to wield
the two edged sword of God's Word.
Read this Psalm not as a call
to take up arms against kingdoms and nations and empires of this world but read
it rather as a call to that battle that is fought on the front of supernatural
realms.
- Our vengeance is found in a soul
once lost now lost to hell and heaven bound.
- Our punishments upon the people are
kindnesses toward them which heap coals of fire upon their heads.
- Our chains and fetters bind the
principalities and powers of darkness.
- Our judgment is a strike against
the sin which so easily besets us.
The honor of the saint is real
and eternal. But it is not the honor of battles hard fought with flesh and
blood. It is the honor of being ever faithful to the Lord and it is awarded in
other realms than the earth.
