And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable,
because he was nigh to Jerusalem , and because
they thought that the kingdom
of God
The disciples had just heard
Jesus tell Zacchaeus "This day salvation is come to this house."
Apparently they took that as a sign of a physical salvation and not an eternal
one.
We are constantly prone to the
same error.
- We translate eternal things into
temporal things
- We look for earthly parallels to
spiritual promises and then
- We get upset at God when our
expectations are deflated
Keep your eyes on eternity.
