A Reason for Vigilance

Isaiah 48:1 KJV
Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

There is a kind of religion that swears by the name of the Lord and makes mention of God, but they do it not in truth or in righteousness.

Rather than pointing our fingers at those we think are guilty of this error, we ought to always be vigilant that this is not our own. It is easy to slip from conscientious walking with the Lord to an egotistical promotion of religion over faith. The fleshly propensity toward
·         Control
·         Power and other worldly
·         Attainments
is never buried far below the surface. In only a moment of slumber the devil may use it to devour the spiritual growth of any man or woman. Our responsibility is then to ever be sober and vigilant, guarding against this evil lingering beneath the skin of the best of us.

God is. There is no question He is. Religion, the regular and prescribed devotion to His service, has its place high in our priorities. But the point of religion must be the worship of the Lord and the humble desire to be drawn closer to Him.

Otherwise we swear by the name of the Lord and make mention of God, but we do it not in truth or in righteousness but for self and for gain.
